In a highly anticipated speech at the White House Rose Garden today, Trump announced that he would pull out of the Paris Agreement. Although widely condemned by the international community, Trump struck back.
.@POTUS “I was elected by voters of Pittsburgh, not Paris. I promised I wld exit or renegotiate any deal which fails to serve US interests”

While he thought he could scapegoat a random blue-collar city with no knowledge of Pittsburgh’s support for the pact, the Mayor of Steel City quickly responded.
As the Mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of the Paris Agreement for our people, our economy & future. https://t.co/3znXGTcd8C

Once again underestimating the American people, Trump thought he could get away with pandering to his cronies in the fossil fuel industries in the name of supporting the will of his voters. Evidenced by this tweet, however, Trump was gravely mistaken.
Even a city steeped in a tradition of manufacturing is aware that renewable energy is the future. As the rest of the world adopts this technology, Trump’s futile attempt to reverse this trend will only serve to position the United States behind the rest of the world.
